Job summary

Universal Health Services is seeking an Assessment Coordinator for the Psychiatric Institute of Washington in Washington, DC. This role centers on compassionate patient interviews and clinically informed assessments to determine the best care path, while coordinating with business office and utilization review to secure admissions and certifications.

Qualifications

• LPC or LICSW must be licensed in DC.
• Master's degree in social work or a clinical mental health field is required.
• 1+ years in psychiatric and chemical dependency settings.
• 1–3 years in intake/admissions within managed care.
• Experience with referral agencies to support patient onboarding.
• BLS/CPR certification from the American Heart Association is required.
• Knowledge of crisis intervention and admission/ involuntary procedures.

Responsibilities

• Conduct comprehensive needs assessments and determine clinical dispositions.
• Document responses, complete pre-evaluation forms, and track admissions/discharges.
• Coordinate with supervisors on follow-ups, complex cases, and 24-hour coverage.
• Schedule diagnostic evaluations within 24 hours and follow up on no-shows.
• Explain insurance benefits and arrange financial onboarding for patients.
• Provide tours and advocate for patients and families when needed.
• Manage referral communications with partners at admission.
• Review test calls and contribute to quality improvement plans.
• Participate in admissions operations during night shifts.
• Support QA, staff training, and weekly departmental activities.
