Job summary

Commercial Metals Company seeks skilled mill technician to operate melt shop equipment and ensure production to specifications. You’ll inspect furnaces, adjust slag chemistry, manage consumables, and coordinate with teams to maintain safe, efficient flow.

Qualifications

• Minimum 5 years of Mill experience.
• Strong computer skills required (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
• Ability to read roll and guide drawings as necessary.
• Data entry in SAP / QMOS.
• Ability to work with a budget for lowering cost (SAP).
• Must be able to schedule work through work orders and/or delegation.
• Ability to work in extreme heat.

Responsibilities

• Work to ensure all steel is manufactured to specifications and safely in a timely manner.
• Visually inspect furnace for problems (water leaks, refractory wear, etc).
• Ensure slag foaming is appropriate.
• Adjust flux additions based on slag analysis to optimize slag chemistry.
• Work with operation, monitoring, and performance of melt shop equipment (caster, furnace, cranes, ladle furnace).
• Communicate with workers and supervisors about production issues, concerns, and needs.
• Trouble shoot work-related problems using knowledge and team input.
• Control and replenish inventory of consumables on the operations floor.
• Assist maintenance personnel when requested.
• Fill in or assist supervisor in performing duties when requested.
