Job summary

UofL Health seeks a Medical Technologist to join its clinical laboratory team in Louisville. The role involves collecting blood specimens and performing hematology, chemistry, and microbiology tests in-house, with additional duties in urinalysis, microscopy, and reference-lab coordination.

The candidate will use Allscripts EHR for reporting and communication, ensure QA, comply with CLIA standards, and help prepare for inspections. Prior certified MT experience preferred.

Qualifications

• Self-directed and able to multitask in a fast-paced lab environment.
• Knowledge of laboratory equipment and safety practices (hazardous chemicals, safety cabinets, PPE).
• Knowledge of CLIA rules and regulations and related paperwork.

Responsibilities

• Collect blood specimens and perform hematology, chemistry and microbiology testing in house.
• Perform other in-house tests including urinalysis, microscopy, rapid strep screens and throat cultures.
• Collect, process and prepare specimens for reference laboratory.
• Communicate with reference laboratory regarding specimens and procedures.
• Utilize Allscripts EHR for reporting tests and communicating with providers.
• Perform routine maintenance, calibration and standardization of instruments.
• Perform and report quarterly proficiency testing.
• Maintain laboratory QA and track expiration dates of reagents and controls.
• Maintain a neat, clean, and organized laboratory environment.
• Identify and report safety hazards; assist in policy improvements.
