Qualifications

• Two-year diploma in biological or chemical sciences or Medical Laboratory Technology includes Blood Banking, Chemistry, Hematology and Microbiology.
• Certification as an MLT by ASCP or AMT within 6 months of hire.

Responsibilities

• Performs and interprets technical procedures in assigned departments according to policies and procedures.
• Maintains required documentation per regulatory guidelines and department policy.
• Performs testing and records results manually or in the computer system.
• Reviews and checks work according to laboratory policy.
• Communicates lab critical values to physicians, nurses and staff.
• Performs automated and manual test procedures per procedure manual.
• Reports results within established turn-around times.
• Analyzes quality control data for accuracy and notifies supervisor of out-of-goal results.
• Performs preventative maintenance and start-up procedures for instruments.
• Manages supplies, notifies supervisor when stock is low.
• Notifies supervisor when supplies run low.
• Follows safety and infection control policies.
• Participates in continuing education annually.
• Maintains prompt reporting and professional interpersonal conduct.
• Completes competency validation and OSHA requirements annually.
• Maintains good rapport with coworkers, nurses, physicians, patients and families.
• Understands and follows all policies and procedures; asks questions when needed.
• Utilizes knowledge effectively in daily tasks.
• Participates in Laboratory Quality Assurance programs.
• Performs other duties as assigned by supervisor.

Education

Two-year diploma in Medical Laboratory Technology
