Job summary

Qualifications

Responsibilities

• Perform and interpret high-complexity chemical, microscopic, bacteriologic, hematology, chemistry, and blood bank tests.
• Provide guidance and consultation to Medical Technologists and lab staff.
• Interpret and correlate clinical test results with patient history and diagnosis.
• Troubleshoot testing process discrepancies and ensure QC compliance.
• Assist in developing new tests and quality procedures.
• Maintain accurate test records using computer-based systems.

Job description

• Perform and interpret chemical, microscopic, bacteriologic, Hematology, Chemistry, and Blood Bank tests
• Provide guidance and consultation to Medical Technologist I’s, Medical Lab Technicians, lower-level technologists, technicians, and others
• Interpret and correlate clinical test results with patient history, diagnosis, and clinical condition
• Troubleshoot testing process discrepancies
• Assist in developing new tests and quality procedures
• Ensure test results meet laboratory quality control requirements
• Perform preventative maintenance, troubleshooting, repair, and modification of laboratory equipment and instrumentation
• Assist with rollout of new equipment and equipment modifications
• Instruct technicians and technologists in new equipment and procedures
• Ensure compliance with laboratory quality and safety policies
• Instruct students in clinical laboratory operations and procedures
• Maintain accurate test records using computer-based systems
• Prepare component blood products for transfusion
• Process blood donor specimens for outside shipment and testing
• Send specimens and blood products between campuses and sites
• Maintain supplies, monitor inventory levels, and use FIFO inventory management practices
• Rotate to Marlboro Campus Lab–Medical Center

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree or successful completion of an accredited four-year school of Medical Technology
• Three years of related experience
• Must qualify as a General Supervisor under CLIA regulations for high-complexity testing under 42 CFR 493.1461
• Bachelor's degree in chemical, biological, or clinical laboratory sciences or medical technology from an accredited institution, plus 1 year of laboratory training or experience in high-complexity testing; or associate degree in laboratory science or MLT from an accredited institution, with at least 2 years of laboratory training/experience in high-complexity testing
• Ability to perform low, moderate and/or high complexity testing
• ASCP certification as an MT is preferred
• Ability to perform Hematology, Chemistry, and Blood Bank testing and prepare component blood products for transfusion
• Ability to process and ship blood donor specimens and blood products using appropriate packaging and transport methods
• Ability to meet established turnaround times and deadlines
• Ability to use computer-based systems for maintaining accurate test records
