Jobtailor is seeking a Laboratory Supervisor to oversee Core Lab operations across multiple campus locations in Massachusetts. The role requires leadership in supervision, QA, compliance with CAP and Joint Commission standards, and ongoing staff development.

The ideal candidate holds a BS in Clinical Laboratory Science or related field with national certification, 5+ years of lab experience, and 1 year in a leadership role. Travel between sites and off-hours coverage are expected.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Clinical Laboratory Science or related field, or equivalent with 30 credits in biology/chemistry/math.
  • National certification as MLT/MLS or equivalent, CLIA high-complexity qualification.
  • 5 years of clinical or anatomic lab experience.
  • 1 year in a clinical or anatomic leadership role.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise laboratory staff, testing, and workflow across the lab section.
  • Ensure results produced per established procedures and CAP standards.
  • Coordinate comms of technical and result issues to management and operations leadership.
  • Provide advanced technical support and staff training.

Job description

  • Supervise laboratory staff, laboratory testing, and workflow in the assigned laboratory section
  • Ensure laboratory results are produced according to established laboratory procedures
  • Coordinate communication of technical and result issues to lab management and operations leadership
  • Provide advanced technical support for staff
  • Participate in laboratory quality assurance management
  • Make recommendations regarding employee hires, transfers, promotions, salary changes, discipline, and terminations
  • Resolve grievances and personnel problems within position responsibilities
  • Complete competency documentation, including probationary sign-offs and annual staff competencies required by CAP
  • Coordinate scheduling, staffing, and emergent coverage for all campus laboratory locations
  • Participate in management-team implementation and communication of departmental goals
  • Recommend capital purchases, staffing changes, and process changes for budget consideration
  • Write, edit, organize, and review laboratory procedures
  • Ensure compliance with laboratory quality, safety, health, infection-control, and regulatory policies
  • Ensure periodic instrument maintenance and provide advanced instrument repair/troubleshooting support
  • Guide staff through complex or unusual test results
  • Facilitate validation studies for new equipment and assays
  • Develop staff training plans for new equipment and assays
  • Ensure proficiency testing follows laboratory and CAP procedures
  • Review CAP proficiency results and lead investigations into exceptions
  • Supervise personnel, including performance evaluations, scheduling, orientation, and training
  • Coordinate task assignments and resolve technical and operational problems
  • Provide direction, guidance, and leadership to support teamwork and motivation
  • Participate in performance-improvement and quality-improvement initiatives
  • Ensure adequate departmental equipment and supplies
  • Develop and maintain departmental policies, procedures, and objectives
  • Provide Core Lab supervision across all campuses, including cross-campus coverage and travel between affiliated locations
  • Maintain operational coverage through off-shift, weekend, holiday, and on-call support
Requirements
  • Bachelor’s degree of science from an accredited college/university with a major in Clinical Laboratory Science, Medical Technology, Biological Science, or chemistry
  • Alternatively, a bachelor’s degree with a combination of 30 semester hours in biology, chemistry, and math
  • Official evaluation report for non-US college/university transcript
  • National certification as a generalist Medical Laboratory Technologist/Scientist, categorical in the specialty of operation, or Specialist
  • Must qualify as high complexity testing personnel under CLIA regulations where required
  • 5 years clinical or anatomic laboratory experience
  • 1 year of experience in a clinical or anatomic leadership role
  • Knowledge of evaluation methodologies, data analysis, statistics, QC/proficiency testing, and analytic root cause analysis
  • Interpersonal and communication skills for effective participative leadership and communication with all staff levels
  • Demonstrated proficiency with Microsoft products
  • Preferred: experience with regulatory compliance processes such as CAP and Joint Commission
  • Preferred: proficiency with laboratory information systems
  • Technical expertise in Hematology, including Sysmex; Chemistry, including Roche; and Blood banking experience preferred
  • Experience working independently as Core Lab generalist preferred
  • Willingness to travel between affiliated locations and provide cross-campus coverage
  • Ability to support off-shift, weekend, holiday, and on-call coverage as required
  • Ability to report during inclement weather or emergency events as an essential employee
