Job summary

Maryland Oncology Hematology is seeking a Medical Scribe to support physicians in the exam room by documenting in the electronic medical record and transcribing medical decisions in real time.

The role requires strong computer skills, accurate typing, and excellent communication. You will accompany clinicians, prepare patient handouts, and assist with patient education while maintaining confidentiality in a fast-paced oncology setting.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree or healthcare coursework preferred.
• Minimum one year of applicable experience or completion of a scribe training program.
• Typing proficiency 60 WPM desirable.
• CPR certification a plus.
• Experience working with physicians and medical assistants.

Responsibilities

• Accompanies physician into exam room and enters information in the EMR.
• Transcribes medical decision-making in real time.
• Prints and edits patient handouts and creates new ones as needed.
• Prepares new patient information into progress notes in EMR.
• Updates the patient problem list for the day’s visit.
• Provides patient education and teach-back per physician guidance.
• Initiates patient calls as directed by physician.
• Conducts online research as requested by physician.
• Participates in morning huddle with clinical team.
• Transcribes procedure notes per physician preference.
• Navigates the EMR, PACS, and hospital portals.
• Updates electronic records as directed by physician.
• Maintains compassionate presence and patient confidentiality.
• Formats reports per established guidelines.
• Keeps equipment and work area organized.
• Recognizes and reports unusual or risky information.
