Job summary

Maryland Oncology Hematology is seeking a medical scribe to work closely with physicians in documenting patient encounters. The role involves entering exam findings in the EMR, transcribing clinical decisions in real time, and preparing patient education materials.

You will support the care team with accurate record-keeping and timely communication. This position requires strong computer skills, fast typing, and excellent communication.

Qualifications

• Personable, multitasking and customer service focused.
• Strong computer skills with Microsoft applications.
• Excellent written and verbal communication.
• Experience working with physicians and medical assistants.
• Typing proficiency around 60 wpm desirable.
• CPR certification a plus.
• Bachelor's degree or healthcare coursework preferred.
• Minimum one year experience or completion of a scribe program.

Responsibilities

• Enter patient symptoms and exam details into the EMR as the physician interviews the patient.
• Transcribe medical decision-making in real time under physician direction.
• Print and edit patient education handouts; create new ones as needed.
• Prepare new patient information in progress notes in EMR.
• Update the problem list for each visit day.
• Provide patient education and teach-back within scope.
• Initiate patient calls as directed by the physician.
• Review online research for physicians as requested.
• Participate in the morning huddle with the clinical team.
