Job description

Business: Boys Town National Research Hospital

Job Summary:

In a career as a Medical Lab Assistant, you join us in providing life-changing care to patients from across the region. In this role, you will utilize knowledge of pre-analytic information/techniques to successfully perform capillary and venous blood collections. Evaluate specimen integrity and correlate test results to the clinical picture of each individual. Perform medical lab testing for patient diagnosis and treatment. Responsible for adherence to all policies and procedures relating to blood and body fluid collection, processing, testing, and storage.

Schedule: On-Call

Location: Pacific Street

Major Responsibilities & Duties:
  1. Demonstrates advanced technical skill in blood sample collection and acts as a resource to clinic and hospital personnel. Evaluates and accurately processes samples upon receipt.
  2. Operates testing instrumentation, performs testing, evaluates results, and reports according to established policies and procedures. Communicates with physicians and staff regarding procedures and results.
  3. Performs and records necessary quality control procedures.
  4. Stocks supplies, fills supply orders for clinics, and communicates supply needs to Laboratory Director or designee.
  5. Acts as a departmental liaison to internal and external customers, providing information on specimen requirements, test results, and troubleshooting guidance within departmental guidelines.
  6. Performs clerical functions including completion of requisitions for reference lab testing, faxing results to clinicians, conducting Quality Assurance audits, and filing test records and regulatory documents.
Required Qualifications:
  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • BLS certification required.
