Responsibilities

As a lab assistant with CommonSpirit Health, you will assist with various procedures, including receiving, preparing, and performing some testing. Some of what you’ll do:

1. Practice positive patient identification at all times.
2. Show kindness and courtesy in all interactions, maintaining good communication within the department and hospital.
3. Assist in managing department workflow, fostering teamwork and collaboration.
4. Process specimens into the lab, organize for distribution, and expedite testing.
5. Perform authorized laboratory testing following written policies and procedures.
6. Evaluate and release test results under the supervision of a Clinical Lab Scientist, considering quality control, instrument performance, specimen integrity, and prior results.
7. Handle send-out testing, including processing, packing, and organizing shipments to external labs.
8. Use good judgment in problem-solving and seek help when needed.
9. May perform phlebotomy following proper procedures and techniques.
10. Assist with phlebotomy training as directed.
11. Perform routine maintenance on lab equipment and keep records.
12. Monitor supply inventory, assist in stocking, and log reagents.

Qualifications

Required:

• High School Diploma or GED
• BLS-CPR certification within 90 days of hire
• Excellent customer service and time management skills

Preferred:

• 6 months experience in an acute care facility
• Lab Assistant and/or Phlebotomy certification
