Summary of Job Duties: The Patient Care Technician (PCT) supports the delivery of care as part of the multidisciplinary team. The PCT works under RN supervision, performs tasks that do not require a license or professional judgment, and must pass required competencies. The PCT adheres to UAMS standards and policies.

Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications:

  • GED or equivalent, Baccalaureate Degree
  • Completion of patient care technician course within 3 months of hire
  • Certification as a nursing assistant or military corpsman

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in an acute care setting
  • CPR Certification (BCLS) within 3 months of employment

Additional Information:

Responsibilities:

  • Provides efficient, effective care; organizes workload; communicates with RN and team
  • Seeks assistance as needed; utilizes unproductive time for patient/unit activities
  • Accepts feedback; communicates patient care/changes in condition to RN
  • Informs nurse of patient requests or complaints; performs duties as delegated
  • Assists with patient admission, transfer, discharge; transports patients; follows the Plan of Care
  • Communicates effectively with team members; understands patient’s plan of care
  • Follows through on delegated activities

Physical and Environmental Requirements:

  • Constant physical activity: hearing, reading, concentrating, thinking analytically
  • Frequent activity: standing
  • Occasional activity: bending, sitting, crawling, crouching, kneeling, reaching overhead
  • Lift/Carry: 11-25 lbs or more
  • Push/Pull: 100 lbs or more
  • Inside medical facility; moderate noise level
  • Visual requirements: color discrimination, depth perception, visual acuity
  • Hazards: biological, dust, fumes, radiation, sharp objects/tools

Salary: Commensurate with education and experience
