Job summary

Sutherland is seeking a Medical Coding Team Lead to support daily operations of the Medical Coding Department. You will collaborate with Coding Managers to ensure efficiency, quality, and compliance, while guiding coders and monitoring performance metrics.

The role emphasizes coaching, education, and adherence to ICD-10-CM, ICD-10-PCS, CPT, HCPCS Level II, CMS guidelines, and payer requirements, with a focus on HIPAA confidentiality.

Qualifications

• Minimum of 5 years of progressive medical coding experience.
• Current coding certifications CPC, CCS, or RHIA preferred.
• Advanced knowledge of ICD-10-CM, ICD-10-PCS, CPT, HCPCS Level II.
• Experience with CMS guidelines, payer requirements, and coding guidelines.
• Experience using EHR systems and coding software.

Responsibilities

• Provide day-to-day operational support to Coding Managers without direct supervisory responsibility.
• Monitor coding work queues, assign workloads, and escalate productivity issues.
• Serve as a resource for coders on routine coding questions and workflow concerns.
• Offer technical guidance and mentorship to improve coding accuracy and compliance.
• Maintain departmental policies, procedures, and quality standards.
• Assist in monitoring productivity, quality, and turnaround time metrics.
• Support staff development through coaching and education.
• Escalate performance concerns or compliance issues as appropriate.
• Stay current with coding regulations, payer requirements, and CMS guidance.
