Job summary

Allegheny Health Network seeks a Medical Records Coder to perform thorough medical record review, abstract data, and assign ICD-10-CM and CPT codes to diagnoses and procedures, supporting accurate billing and reducing AR days.

The role requires detailed knowledge of coding guidelines, strong data entry skills, and collaboration with clinicians. Prior hospital coding experience is preferred. This on-site position emphasizes HIPAA and privacy compliance.

Qualifications

• High School/GED required with coding coursework.
• Completion of coding courses in anatomy, physiology and medical terminology.
• At least 1 year of hospital or physician coding experience.
• At least 1 year coding in mid-level facilities or clinics.
• At least 1 year coding major surgeries, observations or E/Ms.
• Strong data entry skills and understanding of computer applications.
• Ability to work with health care team; RHIT/RHIA/CCS-P/CPC/COC/CPC-A Apprentice credentials preferred.

Responsibilities

• Review and interpret medical information to assign ICD-10-CM/CPT codes.
• Abstract data elements for statistical requests and enter into the designated system.
• Manage the unbilled coding report to support cash flow.
• Stay updated on ICD-10-CM/CPT changes by training and reviewing resources.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
