Job summary

Lexington Regional Health Center is seeking a Medical Coder to review records and assign accurate CPT and ICD-10-CM/PCS codes. You will collaborate with departments to ensure proper charging for maximum reimbursement and interact with providers on documentation and E/M levels.

The role requires 2+ years coding experience, preferred AHIMA/AAPC credentials, and adherence to confidentiality and safety protocols. On-site work with potential remote transition after orientation.

Qualifications

• Ability to read, analyze, and interpret reports, policy and procedure statements, and governmental regulations.
• AHIMA, AAPC, RHIA, or RHIT credentials preferred but not required. Minimum of 2 years previous coding experience required.
• Will consider education in a qualified coding program in lieu of credentials or previous experience.
• Ability to complete reports and correspondence at a professional level.
• Confidentiality must be maintained with protected information.
• Ability to solve problems independently using analytical thinking.
• Ability to respond to inquiries from patients, employees and regulatory agencies.
• Ability to communicate with individuals from diverse backgrounds.
• Ability to organize and present information and respond to questions from employees and external groups.
• Knowledge and training of standard precaution protocols and when to apply.

Responsibilities

• Review medical records to assign accurate diagnostic and procedure codes to patient records.
• Use encoder software to assign CPT and ICD-10-CM/PCS codes.
• Collaborate with departments to ensure proper charging and billing for maximum reimbursement.
• Interact with providers regarding documentation and selection of procedure codes and E/M levels.
• Participate in continuing education activities to enhance knowledge and credentials.
• Work with HIM staff to collaborate workflow.
• Ensure infection control guidelines are followed by patients and visitors.
• Ensure environment meets governing body standards.
• Duties may include blood exposure and risk to bloodborne pathogens.
• Maintain patient and staff safety using safety tools.
• Regular attendance at the assigned work location is required.
• Performs all other duties as assigned.
