Job summary

Allegheny Health Network is seeking a Medical Coder to perform thorough review of medical records and abstract data, applying ICD-10-CM/CPT coding for diagnoses and procedures. This role supports efficient cash flow through accurate coding and timely data entry.

The ideal candidate will have a high school diploma or GED, coding coursework, and 1 year of hospital/physician coding experience, plus relevant certifications. This on-site position emphasizes teamwork and adherence to HIPAA standards.

Qualifications

• High School or GED required.
• Completion of coding courses in anatomy, physiology and medical terminology.
• 1 year hospital and/or physician coding experience.
• 1 year coding in mid-level facilities or clinics.
• 1 year coding major surgeries, observations, and/or E/Ms.
• Medical Terminology.
• Strong data entry skills.
• Understanding of computer applications.
• Ability to work with members of the health care team.
• Certifications: RHIT, RHIA, CCS-P, CPC, COC, CPC-A.

Responsibilities

• Reviews and interprets medical information to assign ICD-10 CM/CPT codes.
• Abstracts data elements and enters coded information into designated systems.
• Manages unbilled coding report to aid cash flow.
• Keeps up-to-date with ICD-10 CM/CPT guidelines via training and resources.
• Performs other duties as assigned.
