Job Opportunity: Medical Assistant at UPMC Department of Orthopaedics

Position Location: Rooney Sports Complex

Schedule: Monday through Friday, primarily daylight hours. No evenings, weekends, or holidays required. Previous Medical Assistant experience is preferred.

This role involves both back office and front office duties, supporting the department's daily operations.

Responsibilities:
  1. Send/receive patient medical records in compliance with HIPAA and other regulations.
  2. Obtain lab/x-ray reports, hospital notes, referral information, complete forms, schedule appointments, verify insurance, and manage patient charts.
  3. Prepare patient rooms, set up instruments, clean and maintain equipment, and manage supply inventory.
  4. Organize patient flow, assist patients with transfers and procedures, and collect patient information and vitals.
  5. Answer calls, provide patient education, and relay information as directed.
  6. Perform phlebotomy, EKGs, and basic labs; assist physicians and document patient data.
  7. Ensure compliance with regulatory agencies and maintain confidentiality of medical records.
  8. Administer injectable medications and vaccines under supervision when appropriate.
