Qualifications

Texas Oncology is looking for a PRN Virtual Senior Medical Assistant - FMLA to join our team!

This position will be remote but local to The Woodlands, Texas. The Woodlands has been ranked the No. 1 best city to live for two consecutive years by Niche's annual rankings. What does the Senior Medical Assistant do?

Under direct supervision, the Medical Assistant assists physicians and clinicians with patient care duties in a clinical setting. Responsibilities include promoting efficient patient flow, assisting with exams and procedures, performing clerical tasks, answering phones, and supporting adherence to the US Oncology Compliance Program, including the Code of Ethics and Business Standards.

Responsibilities
  • Escort patients to and from exam rooms, physician offices, and treatment areas.
  • Record patient data prior to visits, including vital signs, allergies, medication changes, etc.
  • Obtain necessary patient records and verify consent prior to treatments or procedures.
  • Prepare and stock exam/treatment rooms and order supplies as needed.
  • Assist physicians with exams and procedures.
  • Support patient education by distributing literature and information.
  • Obtain blood specimens in accordance with OSHA standards.
  • Administer subcutaneous and intramuscular injections, such as hormones and biological growth factors.
  • Maintain disinfection protocols and process instruments and equipment.
  • Answer patient calls, schedule tests, procedures, hospital admissions, and follow-ups.
  • Assist with pre-authorizations and pre-certifications, and communicate scheduling updates to physicians.
  • Obtain and review previous test results, x-rays, scans, etc.
  • Perform administrative duties including typing, filing, faxing, and reception tasks.
  • Maintain indigent and sample drug programs as assigned.
Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Certificate from an accredited Medical Assistant program preferred.
  • Experience with insurance authorizations.
  • Minimum of 5 years' experience as a Medical or Nursing Assistant in a hospital or clinic.
  • Phlebotomy experience preferred.
  • Current CPR certification required.
Physical Demands

Requires full body motion, handling and lifting patients, manual dexterity, and eye-hand coordination. Standing and walking for long periods, occasionally lifting up to 40 lbs. Must have corrected vision and hearing.

Work Environment

Exposure to communicable diseases, toxic substances, radiation, and medical preparations typical of an oncology/hematology setting. Reasonable accommodations can be made for disabilities.
