Job summary

Northwell Health is seeking a Medical Assistant to support physicians and nurses in delivering patient care under direct supervision. The role involves preparing patients, recording test results, and filing reports in the medical record to ensure accurate documentation.

The ideal candidate has a high school diploma or equivalent and completed a Medical Assistant program or has 1–3 years of MA/EMT/CNA experience. Knowledge of basic clinical procedures is preferred.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent, required.
• Completion of a Medical Assistant training program with certificate OR 1–3 years experience as a medical assistant, emergency medical technician or certified nursing attendant (with valid certificate) OR Successful completion of the Northwell Health Medical Assistant training program.

Responsibilities

• Collaborates with health care team to coordinate care and document visit reasons.
• Measures vital signs, height, weight, and conducts basic screening and records results.
• Collects specimens and assists in processing per standard protocols.
• Calibrates and monitors lab equipment; reports inaccuracies to supervisor.
• Performs ECG and phlebotomy per orders with infection control protocols.
• Assists physicians with procedures (e.g., lumbar puncture, pelvic exam) per protocol.
• Keeps examination rooms clean, stocked, and logs updated.
• Supports pre-visit chart prep and general clerical tasks to ensure flow.
• All responsibilities listed are essential functions under ADA.

Education
