Job summary

Northwell Health is seeking a Medical Assistant to provide patient care under the physician’s and nurse’s direct supervision. Responsibilities include preparing patients for exams, administering and recording lab results, and coordinating care with the health care team.

The role also involves taking vital signs, assisting with specimen collection, performing ECGs and phlebotomy, and supporting clinicians with procedures while maintaining accurate medical records and clean, stocked workspaces.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent is required.
• Completion of a Medical Assistant training program with certificate, or 1-3 years experience as a medical assistant, EMT, or CNA with certificate, or completion of Northwell Health Medical Assistant training.

Responsibilities

• Collaborates with health care team to coordinate and implement patient care plans; may record visit reasons and related patient information.
• Performs vital signs, height, weight, and screening procedures; documents findings in the medical record.
• Collects and assists providers in specimen collection following standard procedures; completes requisitions and routes specimens.
• Performs daily controls/calibration of laboratory equipment and reports inaccuracies to supervisor.
• Performs ECGs and phlebotomy per provider orders; adheres to infection control standards.
• Assists physicians and nurses with procedures; ensures supplies and patient preparation during examinations.
• Maintains cleanliness and organization of examination rooms; stocks rooms and checks equipment and logs.
• May assist pre-visit chart preparation by ensuring lab results and documentation are available.
