Job summary

Advocate Health is seeking a Medical Assistant to support patient care in a busy clinic. You will perform rooming, vital signs, history taking, medication reconciliation, and screenings under provider direction.

You’ll assist with procedures, collect specimens, perform POCT, and manage lab duties in compliance with CLIA and safety standards. Strong communication, teamwork, and EMR proficiency are essential.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required.
• Completion of an accredited Medical Assistant program.
• Military DD214 clinical training may substitute for MA program.
• BLS certification required within 45 days in some divisions.
• Successful Atrium Health competency assessment required.

Responsibilities

• Adheres to Medical Assistant scope of practice and follows policies.
• Performs rooming, vital signs, history and screenings as ordered.
• Assists provider with procedures and medications as ordered.
• Performs venipuncture, specimen handling and POCT per orders.
• Maintains CLIA-compliant waived laboratory testing and reporting.
• Administers medications and vaccines following rights.
• Handles refills, authorizations, messaging, and referrals as needed.
• Cross-trained to support clinic specialties and team needs.
• Communicates effectively and escalates when appropriate.
• Maintains clean, stocked work areas and equipment readiness.
• Provides age-appropriate care and uses growth/development knowledge.
