- Assist patients, staff, and physicians to maintain operational efficiency, customer service, and quality care
- Demonstrate clinical knowledge and skills within scope of practice
- Perform and assist with tests and procedures
- Administer medications safely and accurately according to guidelines and written orders
- Prepare patients for examinations and procedures; obtain consent; prepare and label biopsies
- Document patient care accurately according to protocol
- Collect patient information, assess urgency, route issues to physicians, return calls, and schedule appointments as needed
- Review patient teaching materials or provider instructions with patients
- Apply universal precautions and infection-control policies
- Assist PSRs with scheduling and telephone-management issues
- Participate in clinical projects and quality initiatives, including P4P, BMI, and DataMart
- Organize daily work, monitor patient flow and physician schedules, and complete assigned tasks
- Manage telephone messages and troubleshoot problem calls
- Respond to changing circumstances and urgent or emergent situations
- Maintain supplies, inventories, reports, and site-inspection preparation
- Enter authorizations and schedule surgeries and procedures
- Assist in other departments and travel to other sites as business needs arise
- Operate department equipment and use information systems, including AEHR and IDX
- Activate emergency procedures according to protocol
Requirements
- Certification of completion of a Medical Assistant Program
- AHA Basic Life Support for Healthcare Professional (AHA BLS Healthcare) certification from the American Heart Association — REQUIRED
- 1 Year MA experience in related clinical area — PREFERRED
- Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) certification — PREFERRED
- Hospital Corpsman (HM) — PREFERRED
- Proficient and accurate typing of at least 30 words per minute with 0–2 errors
- Knowledge of insurance, utilization review, scheduling requirements, and front desk responsibilities
- Demonstrated proficiency in clinical skills and office procedures
- Medication administration proficiency
- Ability to operate and maintain department equipment
