Job summary

WellMed, part of the Optum family, seeks a Medical Assistant to support patient care under supervision. The MA will assist physicians and nursing staff, handle specimen collection, wound care, and routine procedures while maintaining quality customer service and patient confidentiality.

Qualified candidates will have active MA certification and BLS, with strong computer skills. The role emphasizes infection control, documentation accuracy, and teamwork in a fast-paced clinical setting.

Qualifications

  • Current, nationally recognized Medical Assistant certification or the ability to obtain the certification within 180 days of employment.
  • Current BLS certification for healthcare providers at time of hire or within 30 days of hire.
  • Proven knowledge of medical terminology.
  • Demonstrated basic computer literacy including basic Word, Excel, Outlook and EMR systems.
  • Proven ability to react calmly and effectively in emergency situations.
  • Tuberculosis screening and immunity to Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Varicella, Tetanus, Diphtheria, and Pertussis.

Responsibilities

  • Performs all duties within the scope of a Medical Assistant's practice. Operates diagnostic equipment (cannot interpret tests), remove staples from superficial wounds, changes wound dressing and obtains cultures.
  • Administers non-intravenous medication and performs simple specimen collection via noninvasive techniques and blood collection.
  • Performs EKGs and venipuncture or capillary blood collection.
  • Records patient care documentation accurately and in a timely manner.
  • Coordinates patient care as directed by physicians and policy.
  • Maintains patient confidentiality and delivers quality customer service.
  • Organizes exam and treatment rooms and sterilizes instruments.
  • Follows Standard Infection Control and completes mandatory training.
