Job summary

Advocate Health is hiring an onsite Financial Advocate in the Midwest to help uninsured patients apply for Medicaid. You will meet patients in hospital rooms, the ER, and clinics, guiding them through Medicaid and other financial assistance options with care management and external eligibility vendors.

Schedule is Monday through Friday, 40 hours per week, with a pay range of $22.90-$34.35 per hour. Education: High School Diploma or GED; typically 2 years of patient access, health care, or

Qualifications

• Clear, proactive communication with management about customer service issues and process improvements.
• Ability to articulate HIPAA and EMTALA regulations in patient interactions.
• Solid knowledge of how insurance operates, including denials and appeals.
• Basic medical coding knowledge and understanding of insurance, billing, and denials.

Responsibilities

• Calculate and provide patients with personalized estimates of financial responsibility before service.
• Explain deductibles, coinsurance, and copayments clearly and how they affect out-of-pocket costs.
• Coordinate with care management and eligibility vendors to maximize Medicaid/assistance options.
• Maintain HIPAA-compliant documentation and collaborate with providers to schedule funding-focused care.
