Job summary

Advocate Health seeks a Financial Advocate to determine patient financial responsibility and guide them through insurance details, billing options, and funding sources. The role requires collaboration with social workers and adherence to policies on financial assistance and HIPAA.

The position is onsite in North Carolina with a full-time schedule, typically Monday to Friday, and a pay range reflecting entry to experienced levels in patient access and revenue cycle.

Qualifications

• Ability to communicate clearly and proactively to management about customer service and process improvement opportunities.
• Ability to articulate HIPAA and EMTALA regulations in patient interactions.
• Solid knowledge of how various types of insurances operate related to denials and appeals.

Responsibilities

• Calculates and provides patients with personalized estimates of their financial responsibility based on insurance.
• Explains deductibles, coinsurance, and copayments and impact on out-of-pocket costs.
• Requests upfront payment toward self-pay amounts and sets up payment arrangements.
• Assists uninsured patients in qualifying for assistance programs and completes applications.
• Collaborates with social workers and vendors to maximize Medicaid funding where eligible.
• Educates on Financial Assistance Policy and related billing policies.
