Job summary

HDR is seeking a Mechanical Intern for Summer 2027 to gain real-world experience in building mechanical systems. This internship will involve reviewing HVAC and plumbing documents, performing calculations, and working under the guidance of a Professional Engineer in Omaha, NE.

You’ll collaborate with engineers, learn standard techniques, and participate in mentoring and young professional programs, contributing to sustainability and energy-efficiency projects.

Qualifications

  • Currently enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate Engineering program.
  • Possess strong problem-solving and communication skills.
  • Basic Microsoft Office skills.

Responsibilities

  • Gain real-world experience on projects by applying standard engineering techniques to review building mechanical (HVAC and plumbing) documents, specifications, and mechanical equipment selections.
  • Perform mechanical engineering calculations.
  • Work under the guidance and direct supervision of a Professional Engineer.
  • Connect with recent graduates and our company leaders through mentoring programs.
  • Perform other duties as needed.

In the role of a Mechanical Intern, we'll count on you to:

  • Perform mechanical engineering calculations.
  • Work under the guidance and direct supervision of a Professional Engineer.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Prefer 2+ years completed toward degree with 3.0+ GPA
  • Demonstrated knowledge of software packages related to field of study/industry
  • Preference given to local candidates
Required Qualifications
  • Currently enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate Engineering program
  • Possess strong problem-solving and communication skills
  • Basic Microsoft Office skills
  • An attitude and commitment to being an active participant of our employee-owned culture is a must
