Job summary

HDR is seeking a Mechanical Intern to gain real-world experience in HVAC and plumbing projects. You will assist in drafting ductwork and piping layouts, apply standard engineering techniques, and run calculations using industry software under supervision.

You will connect with engineers, project managers, and mentors within HDR's employee‑owned culture, contributing to a team focused on energy efficiency, sustainability, and innovative building systems.

Qualifications

  • Currently pursuing a degree in Mechanical Engineering, Architectural Engineering, or related field; GPA 3.0+ preferred.
  • Must be enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate Engineering program.
  • Strong problem‑solving and communication skills.
  • Basic knowledge of Revit, Bluebeam, IESVE, and Microsoft Office.
  • Familiar with software packages related to field of study/industry.

Responsibilities

  • Gain real-world experience on HVAC/plumbing projects.
  • Assist in drafting HVAC ductwork, piping layouts, and plumbing systems.
  • Apply standard engineering techniques and run calculations using industry software.
  • Perform assignments under supervision of a professional engineer or Project Manager.
  • Engage with mentors and young professionals programs.
  • Perform other duties as needed.

In the role of Mechanical Intern, we'll count on you to:

  • Gain real-world experience on exciting projects in the HVAC and plumbing industry.

Assist in drafting HVAC ductwork, piping layouts, and plumbing systems.

  • Apply standard engineering techniques and procedures and run calculations using industry software.
  • Perform assignments under the direct supervision of a professional engineer or Project Manager.
  • Connect with recent college graduates and our company leaders through mentoring and young professional’s programs.

Perform other duties as needed

Preferred Qualifications
  • Currently pursuing a degree in Mechanical Engineering, Architectural Engineering, or related field.
  • Prefer 2 years completed toward degree with 3.0+ GPA
  • Strong communication skills and willingness to work in a team environment
  • Basic knowledge of Revit, Bluebeam, IESVE, and Microsoft Office tools preferred, but not required.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of software packages related to field of study/industry
Required Qualifications
  • Currently enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate Engineering program
  • Possess strong problem-solving and communication skills
  • Basic Microsoft Office skills
  • An attitude and commitment to being an active participant of our employee-owned culture is a must
