Job summary

HDR's Mechanical Intern role offers hands-on experience on HVAC and plumbing projects within the Building Engineering Services Group. You will help draft ductwork, piping layouts, and plumbing systems while contributing to energy efficiency and sustainable design in data centers and commercial spaces.

You’ll perform calculations with industry software under supervision, gain mentorship from engineers and leaders, and participate in programs for new graduates.

In the role of Mechanical Intern, we’ll count on you to:

• Gain real‑world experience on exciting projects in the HVAC and plumbing industry.
• Assist in drafting HVAC ductwork, piping layouts, and plumbing systems.
• Apply standard engineering techniques and procedures and run calculations using industry software.
• Perform assignments under the direct supervision of a professional engineer or Project Manager.
• Connect with recent college graduates and our company leaders through mentoring and young professional’s programs.
• Perform other duties as needed.

Preferred Qualifications

• Currently pursuing a degree in Mechanical Engineering, Architectural Engineering, or related field.
• Prefer 2 years completed toward degree with 3.0 GPA
• Strong communication skills and willingness to work in a team environment
• Basic knowledge of Revit, Bluebeam, IESVE, and Microsoft Office tools preferred, but not required.
• Demonstrated knowledge of software packages related to field of study/industry
