Job summary

Burns & McDonnell is seeking an Engineering Intern to support standard engineering tasks, assist lead engineers, and update designs across multiple market sectors. Responsibilities vary by Aviation & Federal and Transmission & Distribution groups, offering broad hands-on experience.

Ideal candidates are enrolled in an accredited mechanical engineering program with a GPA around 3.0, strong communication, and problem-solving skills, and eligible to work in the United States without sponsorship.

Qualifications

  • Pursuit of Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field from a recognized, accredited program.
  • ABET accreditation strongly preferred.
  • Currently enrolled, and in good standing, in a post-secondary education and/or technical certificate program in a field related to the work done in the department.
  • Minimum of a 3.0 GPA strongly preferred.
  • Prior internship and/or related consulting experience preferred.
  • Actively involved in campus, community or other volunteer activities or organizations.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong problem solving and analytical skills.
  • Basic knowledge and experience in Microsoft Office programs, including, Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook.
  • Demonstrated leadership skills.
  • Self-motivated and eager learner, aptitude to grow and develop within the field.
  • Candidates must be legally authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis without requiring future sponsorship for employment visa status.

Responsibilities

  • Perform tasks applying standard engineering techniques and procedures.
  • Assist lead engineers with project duties and update/ correct designs.
  • Contribute to design of engineering systems across markets.
  • Support varied assignments in Aviation & Federal, and Transmission & Distribution groups.
