Job summary

The Building People, LLC is seeking a Mechanical Engineer with an active Secret Clearance to support a federal client at a secure campus in Washington, DC. The ideal candidate will have broad experience across HVAC, plumbing, controls, energy management, and infrastructure modernization.

The role requires strong technical judgment, clear communication, and the ability to coordinate with stakeholders, validate field conditions, and support planning and execution activities on-site.

Qualifications

• Active Secret Clearance.
• Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering or closely related field.
• Minimum 7 years of experience in facility engineering, mechanical systems, operations, sustainment, or modernization.
• Broad knowledge of HVAC, plumbing, controls, energy management, and facility infrastructure.
• Experience with facility condition assessments, engineering evaluations, design reviews, cost estimating, technical writing, and stakeholder coordination.
• Ability to report regularly to a secure federal campus in Washington, DC.
• Knowledge of applicable codes, standards, federal facility requirements, and secure-campus procedures.

Responsibilities

• Assess mechanical building systems, including HVAC, plumbing, hydronic systems, controls, energy management, and related infrastructure.
• Perform facility condition assessments and develop practical repair, renewal, modernization, and lifecycle recommendations.
• Support engineering evaluations, design reviews, scopes of work, specifications, cost estimates, and technical reports.
• Provide technical support for building automation systems, direct digital controls, energy conservation measures, and system optimization.
• Coordinate with government stakeholders, facility managers, contractors, and project teams to translate needs into engineering solutions.
• Review work for compliance with codes, standards, federal requirements, and secure-campus procedures.
• Report regularly to a secure federal campus in Washington, DC, to participate in meetings, field investigations, and project execution.

The Building People, LLC, has a position open for a Mechanical Engineer with an active Secret Clearance to support a federal client at a secure campus in Washington, DC. The ideal candidate is a well-rounded mechanical engineering professional with broad experience across HVAC, plumbing, controls, energy management, facility assessments, operations support, and infrastructure modernization. This role requires strong technical judgment, clear communication, and the ability to report regularly to the secure federal campus to coordinate with stakeholders, validate field conditions, and support planning and execution activities.

Key Responsibilities

• Assess mechanical building systems, including HVAC, plumbing, hydronic systems, controls, energy management systems, and related facility infrastructure.
• Perform facility condition assessments, identify system deficiencies, and develop practical recommendations for repair, renewal, modernization, and lifecycle planning.
• Support engineering evaluations, design reviews, scopes of work, specifications, cost estimates, technical reports, and project documentation.
• Provide technical support for building automation systems, direct digital controls, energy conservation measures, and mechanical system optimization.
• Coordinate with government stakeholders, facility managers, contractors, and project teams to translate operational needs into actionable engineering solutions.
• Review work for compliance with applicable codes, standards, federal requirements, and secure-campus operating protocols.
• Report regularly to a secure federal campus in Washington, DC, to participate in meetings, conduct field investigations, verify existing conditions, and support project execution.

Required Qualifications

• Active Secret Clearance.
• Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering or a closely related engineering discipline.
• Minimum 7 years of experience supporting facility engineering, mechanical systems, operations, sustainment, or modernization projects.
• Broad working knowledge of HVAC, plumbing, controls, energy management, facility infrastructure, and related mechanical systems.
• Experience with facility condition assessments, engineering evaluations, design review, cost estimating, technical writing, and stakeholder coordination.
• Ability to report regularly to a secure federal campus in Washington, DC.
• Knowledge of applicable codes, standards, federal facility requirements, and secure-campus procedures.

Preferred Qualifications

• Professional Engineer (PE) License.
• Experience with BAS, direct digital controls, energy management platforms, and mechanical system optimization.
• Experience conducting facility condition assessments and developing capital improvement recommendations for federal or mission-critical facilities.
• Familiarity with secure federal campus protocols, stakeholder coordination, and field validation activities.
• Salary offered will be commensurate with the candidate's experience, qualifications, and certifications.
• Our positions may require a background screening and clearance directly from the Government.
