Responsibilities

• Perform facility condition assessments and develop practical recommendations for repair, renewal, modernization and lifecycle planning.
• Support engineering evaluations, design reviews, scopes of work, specifications, cost estimates and project documentation.
• Provide technical support for building automation systems, direct digital controls and energy conservation measures.
• Coordinate with government stakeholders, facility managers, contractors and project teams to translate needs into engineering solutions.
• Review work for compliance with codes, federal requirements and secure-campus operating protocols.
• Report regularly to a secure federal campus in Washington, DC, to participate in meetings and verify existing conditions.

The Building People, LLC, has a position open for a Mechanical Engineer with an active Secret Clearance to support a federal client at a secure campus in Washington, DC. The ideal candidate is a well-rounded mechanical engineering professional with broad experience across HVAC, plumbing, controls, energy management, facility assessments, operations support, and infrastructure modernization. This role requires strong technical judgment, clear communication, and the ability to report regularly to the secure federal campus to coordinate with stakeholders, validate field conditions, and support planning and execution activities.

Key Responsibilities:

• Assess mechanical building systems, including HVAC, plumbing, hydronic systems, controls, energy management systems, and related facility infrastructure.
• Perform facility condition assessments, identify system deficiencies, and develop practical recommendations for repair, renewal, modernization, and lifecycle planning.
• Support engineering evaluations, design reviews, scopes of work, specifications, cost estimates, technical reports, and project documentation.
• Provide technical support for building automation systems, direct digital controls, energy conservation measures, and mechanical system optimization.
• Coordinate with government stakeholders, facility managers, contractors, and project teams to translate operational needs into actionable engineering solutions.
• Review work for compliance with applicable codes, standards, federal requirements, and secure-campus operating protocols.
