Job summary

Smith Seckman Reid, Inc. (SSR) is seeking a Mechanical Engineer I to apply standard design techniques on small projects, supporting analyses, drawings, coordination, and client communication under senior guidance.

The role offers growth toward responsible charge, with collaboration across disciplines, and engagement with codes, regulations, and project teams. SSR promotes ownership and professional development.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering from an ABET accredited college with four years’ applicable experience in discipline design and analysis
  • Registered Professional Engineer

Responsibilities

  • Apply standard design engineering techniques on small projects or portions of larger work under senior guidance
  • Develop design approaches and concepts with input from the EOR; perform analyses using industry software
  • Oversee drawings and documentation; review work for accuracy and adherence to standards
  • Coordinate with architects and other disciplines; communicate design requirements clearly
  • Attend meetings with owners/clients/architects; document decisions and actions
  • Coordinate with authorities and utilities to incorporate codes and gov’t requirements
  • Assist with discipline man-hour budgets and report progress and risks to the PM
  • Perform load calculations and equipment selection; review work for technical accuracy before QA/QC
  • Respond to contractor and supplier questions during bid/construction; review submittals
  • Conduct site visits to monitor progress and verify conformance with design and codes
  • Maintain detailed records of communications; contribute to lessons learned
  • Support mentoring of designers and EITs; pursue ongoing learning in codes and software
