Job summary

Exponent in Seattle, WA is seeking a Mechanical Engineer to join our Mechanical Engineering Practice. You will work as part of a team consulting on a wide variety of mechanical engineering issues, applying design, analysis, and testing to complex problems.

The role involves field inspections, data analysis, and preparing reports for litigation and clients. Travel about 25% and a path toward professional licensure are supported.

Qualifications

• Ph.D. or MS with relevant consulting background.
• Outstanding verbal and written communication skills.
• High mechanical aptitude and curiosity for new products.
• Strong foundation in thermal/mechanical systems and related coursework.
• Hands-on experience with experimental techniques and data acquisition.
• Ability to read and interpret technical drawings for buildings or machinery.
• Willingness to travel ~25% and valid US driver's license.
• Desire to pursue professional engineering licensure.

Responsibilities

• Apply mechanical engineering design, analysis, and practice to forensic engineering and root cause analysis.
• Evaluate products and systems against codes, standards, and manufacturer requirements.
• Plan, design, and execute custom laboratory tests using traditional and novel methods.
• Review drawings, specs, and maintenance records to support event reconstruction.
• Collect, analyze, and visualize large data sets for concise conclusions.
• Conduct field inspections of machinery, HVAC, plumbing, fire scenes, and consumer products.
• Travel to client sites and document findings for reports and presentations.
• Support technical investigations in litigation, insurance, and dispute resolution.
