Job summary

Exponent Inc. in Seattle, WA is seeking a Mechanical Engineer to join our Mechanical Engineering Practice. You will work as part of a team consulting on a wide variety of mechanical engineering issues, performing technical analysis, field inspections, and data-driven investigations.

The role requires a Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering or an MS with at least 3 years of consulting experience, excellent communication skills, and a practical and theoretical foundation in thermal or mechanical

Qualifications

• Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering or MS with at least 3 years of consulting experience
• Outstanding verbal and written communication skills
• High level of mechanical aptitude and curiosity for learning about new products and processes
• Strong practical and theoretical foundation in thermal or mechanical systems
• Hands-on field experience in mechanical building systems, vehicle systems, industrial equipment, or failure analysis
• Experience with experimental techniques and data acquisition
• Proficiency with data analysis software and CAD tools
• Ability to read and interpret technical drawings
• Desire to obtain a PE license and advanced credentials
• Willingness to travel ~25%
• Presently authorized to work in the United States

Responsibilities

• Technical analysis of mechanical engineering designs, analyses, and failures (HVAC, plumbing, fire-protection, machinery)
• Plan, design, and execute laboratory tests and experiments
• Review drawings and maintenance records to support event reconstruction and issue evaluation
• Collect, analyze, and visualize large data sets for concise conclusions
• Conduct field inspections of machinery, industrial equipment, and consumer products
• Travel to client sites and inspection locations as needed
• Support technical investigations in litigation and other disputes
• Prepare clear, defensible written reports and presentations
• Communicate complex technical information to diverse audiences
