Job summary

Oklo Inc. is seeking a Mechanical Design Engineer to join the fuel fabrication team in Idaho Falls. You will design equipment and mechanical components, create robust CAD models, and coordinate with analysis and fabrication partners to meet regulatory requirements.

You will work on cross-functional projects, perform design reviews, and drive manufacturability through DFM/DFA and tolerance analysis while documenting design decisions and system architectures.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s or higher degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field.
  • 5-10 years of experience with 4+ years in mechanical/structural design.
  • Proficiency in 3D CAD modeling software (e.g., SolidWorks) including large assemblies and detailed drawings.
  • Experience with CAD version control using PDM/PLM tools (SolidWorks PDM, Teamcenter, Windchill).
  • Knowledge of DFM, DFA and tolerance stack-up analysis.
  • Ability to interpret drawings with GD&T per ASME Y14.5.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and own the design of equipment and mechanical components within Oklo’s fuel fabrication facilities.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally to define design requirements and ensure safety/regulatory compliance.
  • Use CAD tools to translate requirements into robust designs considering space constraints.
  • Participate in design reviews and provide/receive feedback.
  • Evaluate designs to identify deficiencies and implement improvements.
  • Create and maintain 3D models, 2D drawings, and BOMs in controlled systems.
  • Coordinate with analysis teams for thermal, structural, fatigue, and safety analyses.
  • Perform manufacturability reviews, tolerance studies, and DFM/DFA assessments.
  • Document design rationale and system architecture clearly.
  • Work with fabrication partners and consultants for cost-effective production and ASME code compliance.
  • Contribute to process improvements in mechanical design practices.
