Job summary

The Minnesota Department of Agriculture seeks a Meat Inspector to join the Dairy and Meat Inspection Division. This entry-level role covers ante-mortem and post-mortem inspections at meat and poultry facilities, and assists with evaluating HACCP plans.

Work is performed in various plants across Lyon, Redwood, Murray, and Cottonwood Counties, with occasional travel. You must reside in Minnesota within 35 miles of the inspection territory within 6 months of hire; remote work is allowed within

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Agriculture, Meat Science, Animal Science, Biology, Food Science, Microbiology, or related field
• One year of meat and poultry inspection experience or related experience in meat/poultry processing
• Must maintain an active/valid driver’s license and satisfactory driving record

Responsibilities

• Perform ante-mortem and post-mmortem inspections at meat and poultry facilities
• Evaluate plant sanitation procedures and HACCP plan effectiveness
• Educate firms on existing and new regulations and, when needed, initiate regulatory actions
• Travel to assigned counties to perform inspections and provide regulatory support
