Job summary

SpartanNash’s Zeeland location is seeking a Meat Apprentice to cut and prepare meat products to department standards. The role supports value-added items, proper trimming, and safe handling in a fast-paced retail setting.

The position requires a high school diploma or GED and preferred experience as a Meat Cutter or Apprentice, with strong reading, math, and attention to detail. Training, PPE, and safety guidelines are emphasized, with opportunities to contribute to customer satisfaction.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Prior retail or related experience preferred.
• Experience as Meat Cutter or Apprentice preferred.
• Ability to read, write, comprehend, and interpret documents.
• Basic mathematical skills.
• Detail oriented.

Responsibilities

• Cut and weigh steaks, chops, and other cuts for individual servings.
• Produce value-added products per established guidelines.
• Cut, trim, and bone carcass sections or prime cuts to cooking cuts.
• Follow recipes to grind, tray meats and make sausage and other products.
• Price, date, wrap and bag meat products per guidelines.
• Properly fill, rotate and merchandise shelves, cases and displays.
• Notify the manager if products and supplies need to be ordered.
• Receive, unload, and stock merchandise.
• Maintain familiarity with all products and their price, taste, and use.
• Practice suggestive selling with customers.
• Maintain a clean, attractive, and well-stocked department.
• Follow PPE, food safety, cleaning, and guest experience guidelines.
• May be assigned tasks in other departments as needed.
• Travel requirements vary by assignment.
