Job summary

WVUH West Virginia University Hospitals is seeking a Team Leader for Materials Management in Morgantown. The role focuses on ensuring area coverage, executing procedures, and coordinating staff to meet daily objectives across the department.

You will supervise training, manage call-offs, and oversee equipment handling, while maintaining safety standards and effective communication with hospital staff.

Job description

This position’s daily tasks vary by the assigned area. Specific functions of a team leader may include the following: review call-offs and follow procedure for calling in replacements; reorganize tasks to cover vacancies; upholds policies of the department and WVU Medicine; make sure pumps and equipment pickups are done during shift; oversee training; assists management in ensuring daily departmental objectives are achieved. Serves as the departmental representative in the absence of supervisory staff.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

EDUCATION, CERTIFICATION, AND/OR LICENSURE:

1. High School Diploma or Equivalent preferred.

CORE DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

• 1. Quality: Ensures that all assignment areas are covered and that all tasks are completed in accordance with department standards.
• 2. Accuracy: Ensures that team members follow all procedures for inventorying and stocking/restocking. Ensures that all shift transactions are processed appropriately in Workday.
• 3. Safety: Follows all WVUH safety policies and ensures that team members in area follow safety policies. Reports safety concerns and equipment failures to department leadership in a timely manner.
• 4. Customer Service: Adheres to Hospital Standards of Behavior and ensures that department team members provide high quality customer service. Addresses customer inquiries and complaints in a timely manner. Follows-up with management on customer service concerns and suggestions for improvement.
• 5. Staffing: Reviews daily call-off log and coordinates with management regarding arrangements already made and/or begins making arrangements. Completes additional tasks as needed to ensure department responsibilities are met. May rearrange tasks to fairly distribute workload. Demonstrates the ability to effectively direct and coordinate the assignments of team members as required.
• 6. Communication: Works closely with management and staff in assigned areas. Also communicates effectively (respectful, honest, caring) with nursing and other hospital personnel that contact Materials Management. Serves as departmental contact person/representative in the absence of management. Ensures that the Materials Management department phone lines are answered at all times in accordance with Hospital Standards of Behavior.
• 7. Cost Control: Ensures that oldest products are utilized first to prevent waste. Is aware of customers and surroundings to prevent loss/theft.
• 8. Training: Works with manager to plan and support training of new employees and cross training of current employees. Either conducts training personally or oversees training by another staff member.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

• 1. Ability to push/pull up to 600 pounds.
• 2. Ability to lift 60 pounds.
• 3. Ability to stand for up to 100% of the workday, significant walking throughout WVUH.

WORKING ENVIRONMENT:

• 1. Must be able to work in a high stress environment.

SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

• 1. Basic computer skills proficiency (E-mail, Workday).
• 2. Basic math skills.
• 3. Thorough familiarity with all task assignments of area where performing team leader responsibilities.
• 4. Ability to follow written and oral instruction.
• 5. Possess ability to safely operate all equipment utilized in areas, where performing team leader responsibilities.
• 6. Possess the ability to effectively train team members for all tasks/assignment areas, where performing team leader responsibilities.

• 8. Communicates well with management and coworkers and is viewed as a team player by coworkers
