Job summary

Tamco Tools & Steel is seeking an experienced Materials Manager to oversee procurement, inventory optimization, supplier management, and production scheduling across our growing product portfolio. This role ensures raw materials and finished goods are available to meet customer demand while maximizing inventory turns and production capacity.

The ideal candidate has a Bachelor’s degree in a related field, 5+ years in supply chain roles, and certifications such as CPSM/CPIM/CSCP or active

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in supply chain management, business, operations or related field preferred.
  • 5+ years of experience in purchasing, inventory management, production planning, or supply chain management.
  • Experience in industrial distribution, manufacturing, construction products, steel, or related industries strongly preferred.
  • Certification (CPSM, CPIM, CSCP) or actively pursuing certification.
  • Experience sourcing internationally and managing extended supplier lead times.
  • Experience with forecasting, capacity planning, and inventory optimization models.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and execute purchasing strategies to ensure product availability while controlling costs.
  • Source and negotiate with domestic and international suppliers for best value in quality, pricing, and delivery.
  • Establish and maintain long-term supplier relationships while monitoring vendor performance and lead times.
  • Issue and manage purchase orders and resolve supply interruptions.
  • Monitor market conditions, raw material pricing, and supply chain risks.
  • Maintain optimal inventory levels to achieve customer service objectives while maximizing inventory turns.
  • Analyze sales history, demand forecasts, and inventory trends to determine replenishment requirements.
  • Monitor inventory accuracy through cycle counts and physical inventories.
  • Develop strategies to reduce excess and obsolete inventory while improving fill rates.
  • Track key inventory metrics including turns, service levels, stock-outs, and days on hand.
  • Develop and maintain production schedules based on demand, forecasts, inventory, and capacity.
  • Coordinate production priorities with operations and sales leadership.
  • Ensure raw materials and components are available to support scheduled production.
  • Balance production efficiency with delivery requirements to maximize throughput and minimize lead times.
  • Monitor work-in-process inventory and adjust production plans.
  • Collaborate with operations to improve scheduling accuracy and capacity utilization.
  • Generate purchasing, inventory, and production reports for senior leadership.
  • Utilize ERP/MRP systems to drive purchasing and production decisions.
  • Develop demand forecasts using historical sales, market trends, and input.
  • Identify opportunities to improve planning processes and operational efficiencies through data-driven decision making.
  • Partner with Sales to anticipate demand and support growth initiatives.
  • Work with Operations to improve material flow and order fulfillment.
  • Participate in continuous improvement initiatives focused on supply chain efficiency and cost reduction.

JOB OVERVIEW:

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:

  • Bachelor’s degree in supply chain management, Business, Operations or related field preferred.
  • 5+ years of experience in purchasing, inventory management, production planning, or supply chain management.
  • Experience within industrial distribution, manufacturing, construction products, steel, or related industries strongly preferred.
  • CPSM, CPIM, or CSCP certification (or actively pursuing certification).

  • Ensure raw materials and components are available to support scheduled production without interruption.
  • Balance production efficiency with customer delivery requirements to maximize throughput and minimize lead times.
  • Monitor work-in-process inventory and adjust production plans based on changing business conditions.
  • Collaborate with operations teams to improve scheduling accuracy and capacity utilization.

Planning & Analysis

  • Generate purchasing, inventory, and production reports for senior leadership.
  • Utilize ERP/MRP systems to drive purchasing and production decisions.
  • Develop demand forecasts utilizing historical sales, market trends, and sales input.
  • Identify opportunities to improve planning processes, inventory performance, and operational efficiencies through data-driven decision making.

Cross-Functional Collaboration

  • Partner closely with Sales to anticipate customer demand and support strategic growth initiatives.
  • Work with Operations to improve material flow and order fulfillment.
  • Participate in continuous improvement initiatives focused on supply chain efficiency, cost reduction, and service enhancement.
