Job summary

Tamco Tools & Steel is seeking an experienced Materials Manager to oversee procurement, inventory optimization, supplier management, and production scheduling across our growing product portfolio. Responsibilities

  • Develop and execute purchasing strategies to ensure material availability while controlling costs.
  • Source and negotiate with domestic and international suppliers to obtain best value in quality, pricing and delivery.
  • Establish and maintain long-term supplier relationships and monitor vendor performance & lead times.
  • Issue and manage purchase orders while proactively resolving supply interruptions.
  • Monitor market conditions, raw material pricing and supply chain risks.
  • Balance production priorities with demand and capacity for on-time delivery.

JOB OVERVIEW

Tamco Tools & Steel is seeking an experienced Materials Manager to oversee procurement, inventory optimization, supplier management, and production scheduling across our growing product portfolio. This position is responsible for ensuring that raw materials and finished goods are available to meet customer demand while maximizing inventory turns, optimizing production capacity, and supporting the company's continued growth.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:
  • Bachelor’s degree in supply chain management, Business, Operations or related field preferred.
  • 5+ years of experience in purchasing, inventory management, production planning, or supply chain management.
  • Experience within industrial distribution, manufacturing, construction products, steel, or related industries strongly preferred.
  • CPSM, CPIM, or CSCP certification (or actively pursuing certification).
  • Experience sourcing internationally and managing extended supplier lead times.
  • Experience with forecasting, capacity planning, and inventory optimization models.
JOB REQUIREMENTS:
  • Strong understanding of demand planning, MRP/ERP systems, production scheduling, procurement, and inventory optimization.
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel and data analysis skills.
  • Excellent organizational, analytical, and problem-solving abilities.
  • Proven ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced manufacturing and distribution environment.
PURCHASING & SUPPLIER MANAGEMENT
  • Develop and execute purchasing strategies that ensure product availability while controlling costs.

INVENTORY MANAGEMENT
  • Maintain optimal inventory levels to achieve customer service objectives while maximizing inventory turns.
  • Analyze sales history, demand forecasts, and inventory trends to determine replenishment requirements.
  • Monitor inventory accuracy through cycle counts and physical inventories.
  • Develop strategies to reduce excess and obsolete inventory while improving fill rates.
  • Track key inventory metrics including inventory turns, service levels, stock-outs, and days on hand.
PRODUCTION PLANNING & SCHEDULING
  • Develop and maintain production schedules based on customer demand, sales forecasts, inventory levels, and manufacturing capacity.
  • Coordinate production priorities with operations and sales leadership.
  • Ensure raw materials and components are available to support scheduled production without interruption.
  • Balance production efficiency with customer delivery requirements to maximize throughput and minimize lead times.
  • Monitor work-in-process inventory and adjust production plans based on changing business conditions.
  • Collaborate with operations teams to improve scheduling accuracy and capacity utilization.
PLANNING & ANALYSIS
  • Generate purchasing, inventory, and production reports for senior leadership.
  • Utilize ERP/MRP systems to drive purchasing and production decisions.
  • Develop demand forecasts utilizing historical sales, market trends, and sales input.
  • Identify opportunities to improve planning processes, inventory performance, and operational efficiencies through data-driven decision making.
CROSS-FUNCTIONAL COLLABORATION
  • Partner closely with Sales to anticipate customer demand and support strategic growth initiatives.
  • Work with Operations to improve material flow and order fulfillment.
  • Participate in continuous improvement initiatives focused on supply chain efficiency, cost reduction, and service enhancement.
