The role requires a Bachelor's in business/logistics and at least 3 years in inventory management within a manufacturing setting, with a proven cost-reduction track record and ability to drive continuous improvement.

Qualifications

We are seeking a Materials Manager to plan, direct and control activities related to the internal management of raw materials, components, tooling, equipment and coordinates activities related to the shipping and receiving of product as well as releasing of kits to the production floor and all aspects in between.

Essential Functions

• Lead and manage the Materials team, including hiring, onboarding, training, coaching, and performance management.
• Supervise and manage the flow of raw materials, components, tooling, equipment, and purchased services from receiving through shipping. Including kitting, consigned materials, material flow through the plant, and management of excess/obsolete materials.
• Understand and enforce the policies and guidelines regarding the ethical conduct of purchasing activities.
• Support purchasing and operations in the relationships with vendors of incoming materials and Sales with the relationships of customers.
• Interact with vendors via the purchasing team to discuss issues/concerns and to maintain good working relationships.
• Establish and direct a cost reduction program aimed at lowering overall inventory, shipping, receiving, storage, and packaging costs
• Follow Pro‑Active’s procedures for cost tracking.
• Oversee order and billing discrepancies in coordination with accounting and vendors and respond to inquiries on any material received.
• Attend and participate in meetings to ensure customer requirements are met.
• Participate in Management Review meetings.
• Create and manage vendor RMAs in support of QA teams, when needed and follows through with them.
• Analyze and recommend improvements for completed projects comparing estimated costs to actual costs and determines the reason for any discrepancies.
• Oversee the Shipping and Receiving departments regarding incoming and outgoing shipments on a daily basis.
• Responsible for on time delivery of kits/materials to the production floor.
• Supervise inventory accuracy/cycle counting processes.
• Develop and maintain cadence of inventory reviews to manage consigned and PAE owned materials that are obsolete or excess. Partner with Purchasing teams to find solutions to disposition E/O materials that include possible sale to external partners or return to customers.
• Actively pursue and acquire current and up‑to‑date industry knowledge on a regular basis by reviewing trade journals and publications and attending trade shows.
• Develop and maintain a program for sound employee relations with business unit personnel at all levels of the organization.
• Provide guidance and direction to purchasing partners and materials personnel to assist them in their personal and professional development.
• Perform follow‑ups regarding shortages and delivery dates.
• Interface with other departments as needed.
• Attend and participate in meetings as directed to ensure customer requirements are met.
• Issue NCPs as necessary ensuring rejected material is dispositioned appropriately.
• Issue SCARs to suppliers to improve performance and delivery requirements.
• Ensure work area is kept clean and free of debris.
• Adhere to established company policies and procedures paying special attention to safety regulations.
• Perform other related duties as assigned.

Supervisory Responsibility

This position manages all employees in the Materials departments.

This job operates in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines.

Physical Demands

This is largely a sedentary role; however, some filing is required. This would require the ability to lift files, open filing cabinets and bend or stand on a stool as necessary. This position requires the ability to occasionally lift office products and supplies up to 20 pounds.

Travel

Travel is primarily local during the business day, although some out-of-area and overnight travel may be expected.

Required Education and Experience

• Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Supply Chain Management, Logistics, Production Operations or related field.
• Minimum of 3 years of inventory management‑related experience or demonstrated knowledge, skills and abilities to perform the purchasing/inventory tasks.
• Proven track record of driving cost reduction through management of materials.
• Experience and ability to work in a fast‑paced manufacturing environment.

Preferred Education and Experience

• Prior product familiarization/knowledge.
• Five or more years of purchasing experience.
• Five or more years of shipping, inventory management, material flows, and receiving practices.
