Placements24 is seeking a knowledgeable Sommelier for a premier restaurant in Paarl to curate and manage the wine program, select wines, maintain the cellar, and provide expert guest recommendations to elevate dining experiences.

You will educate staff on wine offerings, ensure impeccable service with proper decanting and pairing, and contribute to the restaurant's reputation for an exquisite wine list and hospitality excellence.

Qualifications

• Certification from a recognized wine education body (e.g., WSET, Court of Master Sommeliers) is essential.
• Extensive knowledge of global wines, including regions, grape varietals, vintages, and producers.
• Proven experience as a Sommelier or in a senior wine-related role within hospitality.
• Excellent customer service and communication skills, with the ability to engage guests confidently.
• Strong understanding of cellar management and inventory control principles.

Responsibilities

• Develop, curate, and manage the restaurant's wine list, focusing on quality, variety, and profitability.
• Conduct regular wine tastings and evaluations to ensure the selection meets high standards.
• Oversee wine inventory management, including ordering, receiving, storage, and stock rotation.
• Provide exceptional wine service to guests, including knowledgeable recommendations and proper decanting and serving techniques.
• Train and educate restaurant staff on wine varietals, food pairings, and service standards.
• Manage the wine cellar to maintain optimal storage conditions.
