About the Role

Our client is seeking a knowledgeable and passionate Sommelier & Wine Manager for an upscale establishment in the renowned wine region of Paarl . This position is responsible for curating an exceptional wine list, managing the wine cellar, and providing expert wine service to guests, enhancing their dining experience. You will be instrumental in selecting wines that complement the culinary offerings, educating staff, and engaging with guests about wine pairings and recommendations. This role offers a fantastic opportunity to work within the heart of the Cape Winelands, leveraging your expertise to elevate the wine program and contribute to the venue's reputation for excellence in Paarl .

Key Responsibilities

• Develop, curate, and manage an exceptional and diverse wine list, ensuring it complements the restaurant's menu and appeals to a discerning clientele.
• Manage the wine cellar, including inventory control, stock rotation, ordering, and cellar organization.
• Provide expert wine recommendations and pairings to guests, enhancing their dining experience.
• Conduct wine training sessions for front-of-house staff to improve their knowledge and service capabilities.
• Maintain relationships with wine suppliers, negotiating favorable terms and staying abreast of new vintages and trends.
• Ensure proper wine service standards, including temperature, glassware, and decanting, are consistently met.

Requirements

• Certified Sommelier qualification (e.g., Court of Master Sommeliers, WSET Level 3+ in Wine) is highly preferred.
• Minimum of 3 years of experience as a Sommelier or in a senior wine-focused role within the hospitality industry.
• Extensive knowledge of global wines, grape varietals, regions, and food and wine pairing principles.
• Excellent communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills.
• Experience in inventory management and cost control for wine programs.
• A passion for wine and a commitment to providing outstanding guest service.
