Job summary

City of Charlotte is seeking a Master Automotive Technician to lead advanced diagnosis and repair on its municipal fleet. The role focuses on supervising skilled technicians, diagnosing complex powertrains, and ensuring high-quality service for city operations.

You will mentor peers, work with modern diagnostic tools, and support essential services for Charlotte and Mecklenburg County; ASE Master certification is required or obtainable within 12 months.

Qualifications

• Five (5) years of relevant work experience; or a High School diploma/GED with three (3) years of relevant work experience; or an equivalent combination of education and relevant experience.
• Must have ASE Automobile & Light Truck Master certification (A1 – A8) or the ability to obtain certification within 12 months of hire.
• Knowledge of diagnostic tools, safety procedures, and repair best practices.

Responsibilities

• Performs advanced diagnosis & repair of complex electronically controlled gasoline, diesel, hybrid, and electric powertrains and electrical systems.
• Mentors junior technicians and shares expertise to raise team standards.
• Interprets manuals and diagnostics to complete work orders and ensures quality workmanship.
• Performs preventive maintenance and adheres to Fleet Management and NCDOT standards.
