Job summary

City of Charlotte seeks a skilled Master Emergency Vehicle Technician to lead EVT/ASE-qualified teams and perform advanced diagnostics on fire apparatus and support equipment. You will mentor technicians, document work in fleet software, and support round-the-clock operations for essential city services.

Qualifications

  • Minimum Qualifications: High School diploma/GED with five (5) years of relevant work experience or an equivalent combination of education and relevant experience that provides the necessary knowledge, skills and abilities to successfully perform the essential job duties.
  • Preferred: Degree or certification from an accredited technical school/college/university.
  • Preferred: ASE Medium/Heavy Truck Master Status; EVT Master Status for fire apparatus.
  • Must obtain Class B CDL, ASE Medium/Heavy Truck Master Status within specified timelines.

Responsibilities

  • Performs advanced diagnosis and repair of complex diesel engines, modern electrical systems, air and braking systems, hydraulic systems, and fire apparatus components.
  • Maintains a safe work environment in shop and field operations.
  • Supports an on-call schedule 24 hours a day, 7 days in a 4-week rotation.
  • Mentors junior technicians and documents work in fleet management software.
