Job summary

The City of Charlotte is seeking a Senior Diesel Technician in the Fleet Management Division to evaluate, diagnose and repair fire apparatus and heavy equipment. You will work with EVT certified technicians and support the Fire Department, including a 24/7 on-call rotation and complex diesel/electrical system work.

Preferred candidates have three years of related experience or a technical diploma, ASE heavy/medium truck credentials, and CDL within a year.

Qualifications

• Experience maintaining and repairing diesel engines and hydraulic systems.
• Ability to read manuals, electrical diagrams, and diagnostic software.
• Strong teamwork, safety mindset, and willingness to work on-call 24/7 in rotation.

Responsibilities

• Daily evaluation, inspection, diagnosis and repair of fire apparatus and municipal equipment.
• Diagnose and repair complex engines, electrical and hydraulic systems in heavy trucks.
• Document work with fleet maintenance software and communicate repairs to operations.
