Job summary

Modo Energy in New York is scaling its modeling team to forecast and value energy assets in the Western Interconnection markets. You will own a market, a model, or a stack piece, turning market questions into runnable production code.

The role covers capacity expansion, dispatch, and price modeling, with backtesting and clear communication of results to clients and colleagues. We offer equity, top compensation, and a hybrid, in-office Tue–Thu model.

Qualifications

• Degree in engineering, maths, physics, economics, or related field.
• 2+ years in power market modeling, analytics, or a quantitative energy role.
• You write Python that others can run, and you work in git.
• You can write and debug an optimization problem — unit commitment, dispatch, or similar.
• You know how at least one US power market clears energy and ancillary services.
• You can take a vague question about market behavior and turn it into something you can model.
• You say when a result looks wrong rather than shipping it.

Responsibilities

• Build models: write and maintain dispatch, price and capacity expansion models.
• Learn markets: know how ISOs clear energy and services and what changed monthly.
• Test: backtest against market outturn and fix where the model is wrong.
• Explain results: show colleagues and clients why the model produced its numbers.
• Work with Research, Engineering, and Revenue teams to integrate market changes.
