Job summary

Modo Energy in New York, NY (hybrid) is seeking a Market Analyst, Modeling (CAISO / SPP) to join the Modeling team. You will develop models that forecast dispatch, prices, and capacity expansion to guide investments and operations.

You will own a market segment, backtest against real outcomes, and collaborate with Research, Engineering, and Revenue to explain results and incorporate market changes. Candidates should have strong quantitative skills and experience with US power markets.

Qualifications

• Degree in engineering, maths, physics, economics, or a related field.
• 2+ years in power market modeling, analytics, or a quantitative role in energy.
• You write Python that other people can run, and you work in git.
• You can write and debug an optimization problem — unit commitment, dispatch, or similar.
• You know how at least one US power market clears energy and ancillary services.
• You can turn a vague market question into a model.

Responsibilities

• Build models: dispatch, price and capacity expansion models for your markets.
• Learn your markets: understand ISOs and recent changes.
• Test your own work: backtest and fix where the model is wrong.
• Explain the results: communicate why the model produced specific numbers.
• Collaborate with Research, Engineering, and Revenue to integrate market insights.
