Job summary

Mission Technologies in the Hampton Roads area is seeking a Marine Welder to support the Platform Modernization Ventilation team on active class surface ships. The role involves welding, alterations, and installations for fleet modernization, with travel and overtime as required.

Candidates must demonstrate welding capability, pass X-ray qualification testing, and obtain/maintain a DoD security clearance. Per diem, shipyard access, and lodging arrangements are provided as needed.

Qualifications

• High School or Trade School or equivalent.
• Ability to read and interpret drawings, blueprints, weldments, and engineering sketches.
• Commitment to safety procedures and quality control in a shipyard environment.

Responsibilities

• Support trades team by working on active class surface ships to assist with alterations and installations for fleet modernization.
• Perform all work in accordance with established quality and safety procedures.
• Work from blueprints, engineering sketches, charts, or work orders.
• Install, operate, maintain, repair, and modify structural and ventilation elements and equipment.
• Lay out and mark points and lines on parts or subassemblies using rule, square, scribe or templates.
• Cut, fit, assemble, and position pieces to be welded into jigs, holding fixtures, and existing structure using hand and powered tools.
• Apply welding processes (SMAW Steel and GTAW Aluminum) and production to join, surface, fabricate, and repair parts.
• Develop and use technical documents including controlled work packages, formal work processes and procedures, test documents, reports and trip reports.
• Inspect completed work for conformance to specifications.
• Troubleshoot and diagnose malfunctions to eliminate problems.
