Job summary

Shield AI is seeking an experienced autonomy software engineer to advance capabilities for USVs, UUVs, and UAVs, focusing on multi-agent collaboration and advanced motion planning. You will transform control theory into deployable solutions integrated with real-world platforms.

You will work across perception, planning, simulation, and hardware teams while traveling to customer sites and flight demonstrations. A strong robotics background and C++/Python expertise are essential.

Qualifications

  • BS/MS in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or equivalent practical experience.
  • Minimum experience: 4–7 years depending on degree level; PhD flexibility.
  • Proficiency in C++ and Python; familiarity with RTOS.
  • Background in robotics: motion planning, behavior modeling, autonomous system design.

Responsibilities

  • Robust Motion Planning for USV/UUV/UAV coordination under safety constraints.
  • Localization and Tracking using sensor networks for multi-agent systems.
  • Safe Maritime Operations with COLREGS adherence and operator trust.
  • Heterogeneous Multi-Agent Collaboration for efficient task allocation.
  • Rigorous Software Development with well-defined interfaces and testability.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration with perception, planning, simulation, hardware, and ops test teams.
  • Deployment and Test Support on real surface vehicles and mission logs analysis.
  • R&D and Road-mapping to advance autonomy and new algorithms.
  • Travel approximately 25% of the year to offices, sites, and events.
