Job summary

Shield AI is seeking a Senior Engineer to lead end-to-end autonomy features for maritime USV/UUV and cooperative UAVs. You will design, implement, and deploy advanced motion planning, localization, and multi-agent coordination in real-world platforms, balancing theory with practical engineering.

You’ll mentor junior engineers, collaborate with perception, planning, simulation, hardware, and test teams, and travel roughly 25% for deployments and demonstrations.

Qualifications

• BS/MS in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or equivalent.
• 10+ years of related experience with a relevant degree, or 7+ years with a PhD; or equivalent.
• Proficiency in programming languages such as C++ and Python.
• Background in control systems, motion planning, optimization, and/or distributed decision-making.
• Experience with unmanned system technologies and algorithms (prefer maritime).

Responsibilities

• Develop and own major autonomy features end-to-end from design through deployment.
• Mentor junior engineers and interface with customers in limited capacities.
• Collaborate with perception, planning, simulation, hardware, and test teams to ensure seamless integration of autonomy solutions.
• Improve run-time safety, reliability, and COLREGs adherence in autonomous behaviors.
• Travel as needed for deployments, customer sites, and demonstrations (~25%).
